The Economic Development District Project: Designed for Usability

The Economic Development District, a division of the Northwest Colorado Council of Governments, is an organization that promotes and coordinates economic development in Eagle, Grand, Jackson, Pitkin and Summit County. Their goal is provide the platform for the above counties to work together, and improve the regions’s economic prosperity.

The challenge with this website was the sheer amount of data that was necessary. When displaying large amounts of numbers, tables and graphs, it’s important to focus on the user experience. A good user interface should be intuitive and easy to understand, and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Research, Plan, Organize and Design

Our team spent many hours at the drawing board. We researched similar websites to understand how others have attacked this problem, and learn from their mistakes. We went through many graphical mockups, to discover the best user interface possible, anticipate the steps a user would take and work out any snags in the design that might slow the user down. And lastly, we worked through the content to organize it in an intuitive manner, breaking it down into easy-to-digest bits that will quickly and smoothly serve up the content a user wants, without delay.
